STEMI and NSTEMI

What is ST elevation myocardial infarction

Mi

The "ST" segment of the EKG is elevated (STEMI). MI, is caused by a prolonged period of blocked blood supply. It affects a large area of the heart muscle, and so causes changes on the ECG as well as in blood levels of key chemical markers. A myocardial infarction can have this sign or not (NSTEMI). With NSTEMI, changes do not appear on EKG but blood test markers show damage to heart muscle.
