Sundowner's Syndrome

Does anyone have any idea how to code this? In my ICD-9 book, I don't find it. Thank you.

Sundowns

This is a symptom of Dementia (eg, Alzheimers): people with Sundowner’s Syndrome can exhibit any number of symptoms. The key is that the symptoms occur in the late afternoon or evening, or in the case of someone with more severe dementia, the symptoms worsen at night. These symptoms, which are also symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease and other types of dementia should be coded to whatever type of dementia is present and documented.

Thanks

I was thinking that but my doctor listed it as a diagnosis and I couldn't find one. I correctly coded for Alzheimer's disease. Thank you for your help.

I would not use dementia

It is technically delirium with acute onset, reversible mental status change. 293.0

You raise a good suggestion signaturedoc. I will discuss this with our physician. Thanks for your input.
